what style of electric bikes do you offer?

Kul Wheels ebikes are sturdy beach cruiser-style bikes with large plush seats, upright handle bars and large tires for a nice smooth ride. The “electric” part of the ebike ensures your muscles don’t get too tired and you don’t get too sweaty.

Kul Wheels uses power-on-demand ebikes that have an electric motor which is engaged and operated manually using a throttle located on the handgrip.

With power-on-demand only ebikes a rider can ride by pedal power alone, i.e. fully human-powered, ride by electric motor alone by operating the throttle manually or ride using both together at the same time.

are ebikes “green?”

Ebikes are eco-friendly and considered zero-emissions vehicles, as they emit no combustion by-products.

can I ride in the rain?

Yes! All Kul Wheels ebikes are rain/weather tested to withstand rain. If you get caught in a heavy downpour, it is always advisable to take cover – for your electric components as well as your comfort and safety. DO NOT completely submerge your motor or battery in water as it can result in motor/battery malfunction or failure.

how many miles will I be able to go on a single charge?

Without getting too technical, depending on your ebike’s battery, mileage can range from 20 miles to 90 miles per charge. There are many variables that affect your range. They include obvious things like your weight, your ebike’s weight, the terrain (hills require more battery) and how much you are contributing with your pedaling. Range is also affected by tire pressure, the type of surface you are on and – if you are pedaling – selecting the gear(s) which will help you contribute your pedaling power effectively.

what should I wear?

We recommend fitted pants, jeans or shorts with comfortable closed-toed shoes. Sunglasses and sunscreen are a good choice, too!

what are the virginia laws regulating bicycling and electric power-assisted bicycles?

The laws regulating bicycling on Virginia’s public highways define the rights and duties of bicyclists as well as the motorists with whom they share the roadway. Bicyclists and motorists basically have the same rights and duties, and the laws governing traffic regulation apply equally to both.

“Electric power-assisted bicycle” means a vehicle that travels on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground and is equipped with (i) pedals that allow propulsion by human power and (ii) an electric motor with an input of no more than 1,000 watts that reduces the pedal effort required of the rider. Operators must be at least 14 years old or be under the supervision of someone at least 18 years old (but Kul Wheels riders must be at least 16 years old). An electric power-assisted bicycle shall be considered a vehicle when operated on a highway.
